In 2021, we created a new social media initiative called Your Tameside. The idea is to promote our local area in a positive manner, and produce feature/newsy style videos, featuring local people who are doing good in the local area.
The idea came about after we followed a guy in Ashton-under-Lyne, called Nanu Patel, who every Christmas donates hundreds of gifts, toys, hampers, toiletries, to families in the area who have fallen on hard times, or community groups who look after the vunerable in society.
This is the original video which started off Your Tameside.
Since then, we have followed Nanu every year, and more of those videos can be found on our Your Tameside Youtube Page.
Since formally launching Your Tameside in 2021, we have worked with, and connected with, a number of local groups and individuals, highlighting what they do in the community, and below is an example of some of the work we have done with them.
David Stanley - Singer/Songwriter
David is a Hyde based singer/songwriter, who's mental health suffered during the covid-19 lockdown of 2021, and re-discovered his passion for performing during this time. He tells us his story, in a very frank and honest interview.
Unity Stage School - CCMTT
Catherine Cooper runs her own children's stage, based in Dukinfield, and almost closed during the covid-19 pandemic. Thankfully, her persistence, and support from parents, stopped the school for closing for good, and after lockdown restrictions were lifted in 2021, we went to pay them a visit to find.
Following on from producing the video below, we then became an official partner with them, and worked with them, streaming their Christmas 2021 show, worked on a short documentary that was broadcast during the live streaming, and currently producing a DVD of the show, with the proceeds of the live streaming and DVD sales going back into the school.
Sailors Beware - Laurel & Hardy Tent
In November 2021, we featured Graeme & Stuart Green, who are a very successful Laurel & Hardy tribute act, based in Tameside, and also run their own Son's of the Dessert Tent in Hyde.
They invited us along to the tent, to find out what goes on.
Hyde Park Cafe back open!
Local to us is a beautiful park, Hyde Park, and for quite some time, the cafe in the park had remained closed.
Thankfully, in October 2021, the cafe re-opened, and we spoke to Angela, the manager of the cafe about her new venture, and the exciting plans for the future.
Alexandra & Joe's Charity Bike Ride
In March 2021 we featured the story of Alexandra Taylor, who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 16. Despite her condition, she fought the illness to finish studying, becoming Miss Tameside, representing the borough in the Miss UK finals, and raising money for charity.
Along with her boyfriend, she embarked on a charity bike ride around Tameside, with a specially adapted bike. We followed them on their bike ride, where we encountered every season of weather you could imagine.
N.B.A. Boxing Gym - Ashton-under Lyne
Jimmy Newell made the brave decision to open a new kids boxing gym during covid-19 restrictions, and has since seen the gym go from strength to strength.
We went to visit him, in the early set up days, to find out his story, and plans for the gym.
Since we did this video, we have worked with Jimmy in producing a couple of promo videos for his gym.
